cardiovascular system and its functions
CARDIOVASCULAR SYSTEM
Cardiovascular system is a closed system through which blood flows throughout the body supplying nutrients and oxygen to tissues and removing wastes and carbondioxides. It's includes HEART and BLOODVESSELS. Heart pumps blood into the blood vessels.Blood vessels circulate the blood throughout the body.
Functions:
1.Oxygen and carbondioxiode transport;
- Supplying oxygen to the body is the most essential functions of the cardiovascular system.Although all cells require oxygen,brain cells are the most sensitive and begin to die as little as 3minutes ,if oygen supply is stopped.
- During inhalation ,air enters the lungs and oxygen is absorbed through the air sac into the blood stream.This oxygen rich blood is pumped through the heart into the artrial circulation.
In the capillaries,oxygen diffuses out of the blood and into the cells of body organs and tissue.At the same time,CO2 the waste product produced by cells is absorbed into the blood and transported to the lungs through the venous circulation.When these O2 poor blood {deoxygenated} reaches the lungs,CO2 diffuses through the air sacs and s the exhaled.
2.Nutrient and waste product transport;
- Delivering nutrients to the body is another critical functions of the cardio vascular system.After food is digested in the stomach and intestine ,like component nutrient are absorbed into the blood stream.These nutrient include sugar,fat,vitamin,mineral and protein ,building blocks called aminoacids.Like oxygen,nutrients diffuses from the blood stream into the body cells via the capillaries in additions to CO2.This circulatory system picks up metabolic wate product and toxin and transport them to the liver,kidney and lungs for eventual elimination from the blood.
3.Disease production and healing;
- The circulatory serves as the highway for disease.Fighting cells and proteins are messengers of the immune system.If an infection occurs these cells sends chemical alarm signal that travels through the blood stream ,which subsequently transports infections.Fighting cells to the site of the infection.
- The circulatory system also carries chemical messengers that attract cells to heat tissues that have been damaged due to an injury [or]disease.
4.Hormone delivery;
- Hormones are chemical messengers produced by endocrine glands that affect distant organs.
- The cardiovascular system serve as the transportation connection between the endocrine glands and the organs [or]tissues.They control via hormone.
5.Body temperature regulation;
- It is important functions of the cardiovascular system.Optimal function of human body occurs within a relatively narrow temperature range,which is tightly regulated If body temperature begins to raise blood vessels close to the body surfaces dilate increasing in size.This allows to the body to raise itself excess heat through the skin.Conversely if body temperature drop surfaces blood vessels constrict to concert with the body sweating mechanism as the regulator of body temperature.
